Let It Go

With all of the cleaning and organizing that I’ve been doing lately, you’d think it was Springtime. I’ve mentioned before how I cannot stand clutter, but despite my best efforts, it always seems to creep back in. Such is life with a little one, I suppose.

Of course, us big kids could always stand to get rid of some stuff, too. That’s why my new motto is “Let it Go“.

Clothes that haven’t been worn all year, and likely won’t see the light of day again? Let it go. Random junk in drawers that serve no real purpose, other than to make me crazy? Let it go.

I don’t want to come back from Bulgaria to a messy place at the end of September. Usually when we leave for trips, our bedroom looks like a tornado ripped through it. I’m going to avoid that this time.

I know it probably sounds like we have a lot of stuff, but I swear we really don’t. Living out of suitcases and traveling across the ocean for several years will quickly turn you into a minimalist. I start to twitch every time we acquire some new household item, no matter how necessary and useful it may be. In any case, I’m determined to have a clean, organized space to come home to this fall.

  2. I saw something once that said “organized people are just too lazy to look for what they want.” Definitely not true, but made me laugh. Aaannnndd…. I’m going to have that song in my head all day now!

  3. Thanks for the link love! 🙂 I feel like getting rid of clutter is a huge part of changing your mindset and getting out of debt. Congrats on your zoo post, that is so cool!

While I absolutely HATE that song 🙂 I love the connection to getting rid of clutter. We’ve been doing a lot of that this summer as we just felt overrun by crap. Thankfully we’re starting to see some significant progress.

  5. Before reading this I just got done going through some of my drawers of clothes and found stuff to get rid of. I have a lot more to go through but I’m getting rid of stuff too. I love coming home from vacation to a clean and organized house. I actually took a day off before and after our next vacation to make sure that I have time to relax and get everything clean.

  6. Hey, congrats on your Travel Blue Book posts, Lauren! My son just came back from Krakow (he was in Germany, Poland and Latvia) and so we are going to hear all about it when he comes home for his birthday next weekend.

I hate clutter but I won’t say I’m that great at keeping it at bay. I am a fantastic detailed cleaner though when I put my mind to it. I agree, getting rid of stuff makes it easier, so I need to Let it Go and stop trying to hold on to it in case I need it. I think being a child of a depression kid has made me this way.

Thanks Lauren, now I officially have that song in my head and I don’t think it will ever get out. 🙂 I love a good spring clean any time of the year. I was thinking this morning that I will probably indulge in a mini one this weekend because the clutter situation around here is starting to mess with my brain. I hope you enjoy your weekend!!

I really like my environment to be neat and organized but I don’t live alone so I quietly pick up after DH’s clutter in order to make my ordered self feel less stressed lol.

  9. I’m trying to do the same – we’ve got stuff still packed from when we moved over a year ago! We clearly don’t need it… 🙂

  10. Thank you so much for the mention, Lauren! I really appreciate it! I’m right there with you on clutter, it makes me crazy. I’m like you, we don’t have a ton of stuff, but a messy drawer or closet sends me into an organizational frenzy :). P.S. I enjoyed your article on Krakow–we went a few years ago and LOVED it. Truly one of our favorite spots on earth. Have a great weekend!
